General Statement of Duties: To assist new and existing patients, family and care givers in a timely and caring manner. To act as a liaison between the patients and SSI, by managing patient calls & maintaining a dedicated prescription line. Triages patient phone calls, counsels patients, screens MD messages and returns patient phone calls in an efficient and professional manner.
Reporting/Supervisory Relationship: Practice Manager
Typical Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching overhead and lifting up to 40lbs.
Typical Working Conditions: Busy office environment. Works with public, physicians and patients.
Essential Job Duties:
- Manage the Prescription Refill line
- Remove all prescription requests from voice mail
- Uses prescription log to document all requests
- Secure approval from physicians
- Calls the prescription back to the pharmacy or mails prescriptions to patients
- Answers all requests phoned in before 2pm by the end of the day, all other requests will be filled by the end of the next business day.
- Triage Calls
- Interviews patient (if possible) and/or family (with permission) to obtain required history and make an accurate assessment.
- Assigns a triage priority based on observations and available information. In-put new patients and patient updates in computer daily.
- Initiates diagnostic and therapeutic measures as indicated by standing protocols.
- Communicates and acts as liaison between the patient, family, and health professionals in a manner that respects confidentiality and dignity.
- Coordinates the needs of the patient with supporting departments and assists in solving problems related to the welfare of patient and staff.
Other Job Duties:
- Charts concisely, descriptively, and legibly indicating patient’s progress or lack progress.
- Demonstrates compliance with existing standards and policies
- Participates in mandatory in-services.
- Support and assist co-workers as needed.
- Returns patients phone messages at designated times throughout the day; documents action taken in patient’s chart.
- Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice.
- Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions.
- Acts as mentor to medical assistants, while demonstrating professional, efficient, quality customer service.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have basic computer skills and experience with practice management and word processing software.
- Must feel comfortable using E-mail and interacting with internet applications
- Must be able to perform multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must display a courteous, positive, and helpful attitude to patients, their families, staff and physicians to include a pleasant speaking voice and demeanor.
- Must feel comfortable working in a team environment consisting of SSI staff, physicians, patients, and outside vendors
- Must be reliable and highly motivated.
- Be able to accurately follow office procedures and protocols with minimum supervision.
- Must maintain a neat, professional appearance.
Education: High School Diploma
Experience:
At least 2 years experience in a physician’s office or hospital; training in orthopaedics and/ or emergency room preferred.
